Tour Plan
Arrive Leh at 3,500 metres / 11,000 ft and check into the hotel. You would require about 5–6 hours for acclimatization (body getting used to high altitude conditions), lunch at hotel, after lunch visit Shanti Stupa, a white-domed stupa constructed by Japanese and Ladakh Buddhists in 1991, followed by a walk in the local market of Leh. Overnight in Leh.
Check out and head to Uletokpo. Visit Mulbek and Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest in the Ladakh region. In Uletokpo one may visit Rizong Monastery by foot, 5 kms to and fro. Uletokpo has one of the best camping sites in Ladakh. Overnight at tents or cottages in Uletokpo.
Check out and head towards Leh, en route short halts at three monasteries – Alchi Monastery (only monastery in Ladakh on flat ground), Likir Monastery, located near the bank of the River Indus, is a house to a 75-feet-tall statue of the Golden Maitreya Buddha, followed by a visit to Spituk Monastery. Further visit Magnetic Hill (gravity-defiance point), Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and Leh Hall of Fame (Kargil War memorabilia). Overnight in Leh.
After breakfast, visit Leh Palace, built in the 17th century. The palace provides panoramic views of Leh city. Proceed to 200-year-old Stok Palace Museum, which was once the residence of the royal family. After breakfast, head to Khardungla Pass, highest motorable pass in the world at 5,600 metres, enjoy spectacular beauty of snow-capped mountains while sipping tea or having soup at Khardungla Pass. Drive ahead to reach Nubra Valley, which is sandwiched between Tibet and Kashmir. Best thing to do at Nubra Valley is to enjoy a Bactrian Camel safari at Hunder Sand Dunes. These camels are unusual compared to those commonly seen; they have two humps and are even-toed. Visit Panamik village, which lies on the bank of River Nubra. You can also indulge in shopping for some beautiful Pashmina shawls, Kashmiri carpets, woolen socks, apricots, apples, walnuts and Kashmiri or Tibetan artefacts. Overnight at hotel in Nubra Valley.
Rise early to experience the mesmerising morning of Nubra Valley. After breakfast, visit Diskit Monastery, which houses a 106-ft-tall Maitreya Buddha statue and is one of the oldest monasteries in Nubra Valley, after which drive back to Leh. Evening free for a leisure walk around Leh city. Overnight in Leh.
Pangong Lake day excursion. After breakfast, enjoy a scenic ride towards Pangong Lake; en route, cross Chang La Pass at 5,486 metres. Enjoy the picturesque beauty of Pangong Lake, situated at an altitude of 4,267 metres and bisected by the international border between India and China. Drive back to Leh. Overnight in Leh.
